St John's College warmly welcomes students from a variety of overseas countries. On arrival at the College each student's level of competency in English is assessed to ensure they are placed at the appropriate level of study. The Dean of International Students oversees the academic programmes, progress and welfare of our students. Assistance with: renewal of visas, medical insurance and opening bank accounts is available. Extra buddy reading programmes with NZ students are provided free of charge. Enrolments are accepted throughout the year with students able to commence their studies on arrival. No more than 10 students per ESOL class.
Accommodation options
If a student requires accommodation the College can arrange a homestay, that is, living with a local New Zealand family. The homestay will provide the student with his own fully furnished room, three meals a day and laundry facilities. Homestay families are police vetted. The Dean of International students makes two visits to the Homestay residence twice a year to ensure the student is being well cared for whilst he is away from home.
Once a term the student is asked to complete an evaluation form about school life in general as well as his homestay so the Dean can monitor any concerns he might have.
