Mayoral welcome for the Waikato’s international students

HAMILTON’S MAYOR WELCOMES THE WAIKATO’S INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students are an important part of our community. Hamilton City Council and Study Waikato, the regional Education Organization hosted an event on 15 August 2018 at the Hamilton Garden Pavilion to welcome the new international students to the Waikato region. Mayor Andrew King, Deputy Mayor Martin Gallagher and Councillor Siggi Henry, Study Waikato President Shirley Huang attended the event together with Study Waikato members and invited new international students in the region. The students are studying at primary, intermediate, secondary, tertiary and PTEs and they are from all over the world.

This year we had four students as the event MCs (Master of Ceremonies) who showed their talents and confidences: they were Sunkheang Lor from Hamilton Boys High School, William Gao from Hillcrest High School, Crystal Qijun Huang from Sacred Heart Girls College and Sin Hui Lai from Peachgrove Intermediate School . Two wonderful international students, Daegeum Jeong from Boys High School and Suzuka Inada from Hillcrest High School, also performed Drum and Baton Twirling, and the 2017 Study Waikato scholarship winner Nattatida Alongkorntaskin provided us with her wonderful experiences in studying and living in New Zealand and Waikato region.
